Back in the Andrew-Garfield-Spider-Man era, we were told that Sony had set plans to release several spin-off films that would collide together and give us Spider-Man versus the Sinister Six, which is not a middle school death-core band as the name makes it seem.
Who would be in the Sinister Six?
The spin-offs would bring fans movies centered around Spidey’s most viscous foes: Venom, Dr. Octopus, Vulture, Mysterio, Sandman, and Jamie Foxx’s Raging Emo Blue Guy (Electro).
However, all that was seemingly thrown out the window when word got out that Andrew Garfield had been let go for not attending the Amazing Spider-Man 3 announcement.
Rumors also surfaced that he was talking smack about Sony CEO, Kaz Hirai, but that’s neither here nor there.
Now, with Tom Holland ushering in a new Spider-Man era in less than a month with Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems that the Sinister Six has been given the green light…again.
Though, in a decision that makes 100% sense, it will take place in a universe apart from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
When should we expect the first Sinister Six film?
The kickoff film for the Sinister Six franchise will focus on Venom and has been given a release date of October 5, 2018. Which is just in time to look very edgy alongside the horror films of that season.
Writing the film will be Scott Rosenberg (Gone in Sixty Second), Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), and Alien: Covenant‘s Dante Harper, though his involvement has yet to be confirmed.
The Venom solo film has been planned since Spider-Man 3 when Topher Grace played the character, but I think we all know what happened there…
With the success of the heavy R film Logan, Sony might be looking to get their hands on some gory money by releasing a Venom solo film, which can’t be done unless he’s allowed to shed some blood.
