I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been overly fussed about the different texture packs available on Minecraft. Don’t get me wrong, the Natural Texture Pack is quite cool, and gives the game a bit more of a realistic feel. But aside from that, I just prefer to play the blocky game with the original content.
That is, until I discovered that Nintendo and Mojang are collaborating to bring us a Super Mario themed pack! Exciting stuff!
This pack, due to be released on May 17th, is called the “Super Mario Mash-Up Pack”. It is exclusively for Minecraft: Wii U Edition, and will be completely free!
If you don’t already have Minecraft for the Wii U, then you’ll be able to purchase it from June 17th onwards with this awesome texture pack already included.
So what sort of Mario-themed aspects will this new pack contain? Well, not only will there be a pre-made world containing all of the new content for you to explore, but there will also be 15 pieces of music from Super Mario 64. The whole world is retextured to resemble the popular game, and there will be 40 different character skins to choose from. These will range from Mario, to Shy Guy, to Princess Peach, to the Koopalings.
It won’t just be the protagonist skins that change: Creepers and Zombies will be replaced by iconic Mario bad guys. Instead of looking out for the original Minecraft monsters, you’ll instead be faced with blocky versions of Dry Bones and Hammer Bros.
If you still can’t comprehend how awesome this texture pack is, then just check out the video and see for yourself. The written word really doesn’t do it justice!
And now I’m going to sit here, cross my fingers, and pray for them to continue this collaboration. Who know, maybe we’ll be getting a Pokemon themed pack next!
