PvZ Sunflower

I wanted to put out an article on this game, because I have had an eye on it for a while. I am super excited about it. Rakuen is an indie adventure game created by Laura Shigihara. If you don’t recognize the name, you might know her as the composer for Plants vs. Zombies. She has also contributed music to multiple games including World of Warcraft, Surviving High School, and one of my favorite games of all time To the Moon.

She also has a YouTube page where you can check out many of her covers and original songs.

The concept artist for this game is Emmy Toyonaga, a concept artist for multiple The Sims games, and a former employee of EA.

I should move onto the game itself. Rakuen is a game about a sick Boy who lives in a hospital. His mother always reads him his favorite storybook, and the Boy asks his mother to guide him to this fantasy world.

The two traverse the world to grant the boy one wish, but to accomplish this, the Boy must solve puzzles, collect items, and help his fellow patients by interacting with their fantasy-selves.

As the Boy unravels the secrets of the other patients, he discovers the struggles they go through.

Rakuen now has a Steam Page and will be released May 10th for PC, Mac, and Linux. I’m sure the page does a much better job of describing the game.

Or watch the trailer:

If nothing else, there will at least by a fantastic soundtrack.

There really isn’t much more I can say about Rakuen right now, since the provided media outlines everything. I’d hate to be too redundant. But I would like to take a moment to talk about why I am personally looking forward to this game.

I am excited for this game because it is rich with story and unique characters. When looking at games, the story is the most important part to me. This is simply because it can emotionally affect, and subsequently wreck me for several days. It looks aesthetically similar to To the Moon (you should definitely play it if you haven’t), which makes sense. Though the gameplay will differ greatly.

Everything I’ve seen about the game so far looks very promising, and at the risk of jumping the gun by saying this: I doubt it will disappoint. Make sure to keep an eye out for this one.
