Texas-based video game development company, Renegade Kid, announced yesterday (via their official company site), that the team was going to split into two different companies, Atooi and Infitizmo.

Renegade Kid founders, Jools Watsham and Gregg Hargrove, along with their team were responsible for Treasurenauts, Dementium: The Ward, Xeodrifter, and (most recently) Mutant Mudds: Super Challenge. Although a bulk of their work can be found on the Nintendo DS and 3DS, they have been successful in bringing some of their IPs into the mainstream gaming market with both Xeodrifters and Mutant Mudds: Super Challenges being made available for the Wii U and PlayStation 4.

Being that both Watsham and Hargrove aim to maintain their friendship and avoid any bad blood, the two have agreed to split their IPs. Renegade Kid’s library of 2D games (such as Mutant Mudds and Treasurenauts) will be going to Atooi, while Infitizmo will handle their 3D games (Dementium and Cult Country).

No word yet on whether either of the new companies will aim to bring back some of their cancelled games, which include a prequel to Mutant Mudds and a new 3D IP called Son of the Dragon that Jools Watsham described as, “a ‘good’ 3D Castlevania where you are Dracula, with a focus on responsive combat, solid gameplay camera, light RPG elements, and a rich world of wickedly diverse landscapes, enemies, player weapons, and abilities.”

Hopefully we get some more out of the Mutant Mudds series by Atooi as it has proven to be something gamers have enjoyed (holding review scores around 80% and above), and perhaps Infitizmo will find themselves another publisher to help them get Son of the Dragon out to the gaming world.
