Captain America: Civil War

Calling all girls between the ages of 15 and 18 and in grades 10 – 12 who want to make a positive change in the world through STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)!

In an odd way to promote Marvel’s biggest superhero mashup film, Captain America: Civil War, they are announcing a new science-based contest called Girls Reforming the Future. As if Spider-Man didn’t already create enough hype for the film.

In serious note, this is really amazing to see a company as big as Marvel to do. Getting more female presence into STEM programs is something pretty much every single person can get behind, as it has been predominately a boys club for what seems like forever.

Marvel isn’t just slapping their name onto a contest, however, as they have promised whoever comes out as the winner of the STEM contest the opportunity millions of people everywhere would sell their little brother for: getting to walk the red carpet for the Captain America: Civil War premiere with the stars of the film!

In typical Marvel fashion, they’re pulling out all the stop. The other gifts the winner will be rewarded with include:

  • Receive a $500 High Yield Savings account from Synchrony Bank.
  • Receive a trip to Hollywood, California for the finalist and a parent or legal guardian for the opportunity to present their project to leaders in science and industry at MARVEL STUDIOS.
  • Will participate in a live global Broadcom Masters webinar during which they will discuss how their STEM skills enabled them to create their projects.
  • Have the opportunity to walk the red carpet at the World Premiere of MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on April 12, 2016.
  • Receive a tour of the Walt Disney Studios and Dolby Laboratories facilities.

I know that walking down the red carpet with some of today’s most popular movie stars sounds amazing, but that High Yield Savings account is what is making me regret being a male at the moment.

You may create a new project for the challenge or submit a project you previously developed for a class, for a science competition, or just for fun. Science, technology, engineering, or mathematics must be used in the creation of the project, and the project should have the potential to benefit humankind.

Video submissions can be submitted via the contest’s official website which you can visit here, and the lucky winner will be notified at the end of the month, March 30.

With great science comes great responsibility, and other superhero related pun quotes.
