Fans of the Canadian-based, oddball series Trailer Park Boys have lost a character. Yesterday, it was reported that Mike Smith who plays Bubbles/Donny in the show was arrested in Los Angeles for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. He was later released on a $20,000 bail.
Although the issue is a lot less dramatic behind the headlines reporting on it (despite some reports saying Smith was choking the victim) it was enough drama to cause long-time Trailer Park Boys actress, Lucy Decoutere to say goodbye to the show and fans of the series via her Twitter:
I have resigned from Trailer Park Boys.
— lucy decoutere (@lucydecoutere) April 2, 2016
Although the reasoning behind her leave are in regards to yesterday’s dilemma with Smith and his friend Georgia Ling, she did not really specify as to exactly how one lead to the other.
Trialer Park Boys is currently on its 10th season, and is being produced by and streamed on the hugely popular entertainment site/app, Netlfix, who obtained the show, renewing it for its 8th season, after Showcase dropped the program in 2007.
Along with 10 absurdly funny seasons, the show has also had 5 feature-length films: Trailer Park Boys: The Movie, Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day, Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It, Trailer Park Boys: Live in Fuckin’ Dublin and Live at the North Pole.
That’s a whole lotta Julian, Ricky, and Bubbles.
No one really knows if Decoutere will ever return to the show, or if she really is completely done with the show. Netflix might end up having to do some last-minute casting in order to fill the space Lucy will leave behind.
