David Bowie, famed artist and world renowned, has lost his battle with cancer, confirms The Hollywood Reporter.

“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,” read a statement posted on the artist’s official social media accounts.

Bowie’s 40 year career in music had his talents featured in rock, soul, dance pop, punk and electronica. The singer was also famous for his song writing abilities and producing talents as well.

Bowie’s on going battle with cancer went on for a prolonged 18 months. This information was held privately by Bowie and his family. The singer just released a new album last week, Blackstar.

Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones took to Twitter to say, ‘Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.’

Bowie’s talent and skill in the industry will be missed.
