Injustice 2

Yesterday, a tip to the website Polygon was sent with what appeared to be a promotional poster for Injustice 2 featuring The Flash and Batman squaring off with the tagline: Every battle defines you.”

Also leaked was a letter sent to Gamestop managers stating that the posters are free with the pre-orders of the game while stocks last.

Today, ahead of E3 however, an announcement trailer for the sequel to the popular fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us (Developed by NetherRealm) has hit the web.

The cinematic trailer shows famed superheroes, Batman, Superman, Flash, Aquaman and Supergirl in a brutal free-for-all for survival in some sort of underground arena.

What’s interesting about this trailer is the voice-over saying:

“They say that battle changes you. It makes you stronger, more ferocious. A monster in the night, watching, learning, hunting. Each time I enter the pit I emerge reborn, put the devil on the other side and I will show up, evolved, adapted and prepared to fight.”

It’s clear that the narrator (voiced by Bryan Cranston?) is a past or present fighter in this pit that he describes, but we are still unsure why these heroes, friends torn apart are fighting each other.

It seems like this battlefield is some sort of Arena, a controlled environment so that combatants can hunt each other. The setting reminds us of kind of a Fight Club for superheroes.

Are they controlled? Are they being pitted against each other like Batman v Superman?

The footage itself gives away gameplay elements that will be included in the game with the characters each employing adaptive armour and gear as the fight wears on.

Which, for the Kryptonians, looks like something inspired by Man of Steel with the Superman costume being an under-suit.

The Machinma posting of this trailer gives a brief description of this gameplay element saying:

“Build and power up the ultimate version of your favourite DC legends in INJUSTICE 2. With a massive selection of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains, INJUSTICE 2 allows you to personalize iconic DC characters with unique and powerful gear. Take control over how your favourite characters look, how they fight, and how they develop across a huge variety of game modes. This is your Legend. Your Journey. Your Injustice.”

This gives us an idea of the amount of customization the players will have when it comes to kitting out their favourite saviour of Earth, and may prove to be a great addition to the genre.

How will this affect the game’s balancing?

We will find out closer to its release date in 2017 on Xbox One and PS4.
