How many times have you sat through the intricately detailed map intro of Game of Thrones and wanted to get a more immersive look at the grinding gears to look for that trail Arya used to escape King’s Landing?
Thankfully, a collaboration between HBO, Facebook, Oculus, and Elastic, who made the original intro, has brought to life a 360 degree video experience, that lets you feel like Drogon (Daenerys Targaryen’s rogue dragon [the Khaleesi]) soaring over Westeros.
Well, without any of the murder.
The video was posted to the Game of Thrones Facebook page earlier today and as of this writing has reached 2.6 million views. The camera’s journey leads from King’s Landing to Dorne with stops at The Wall, Winterfell, and Mereen.
Unlike a globe or a flat map, the design of the intro deems to be from the inside of a sphere, allowing you to see just about any known land of Westeros.
According to Variety, The video is soon to be released for Samsung VR and Oculus Rift for a more full VR experience.
Game of Thrones season six will premiere Sunday, April 24, in case you haven’t heard.
Surely leaving us hanging on what fates many characters have met (it’s a huge cast and a lot of stories guys).
Is this experience worth crashing your browser like many of our staffers’ did when we tried to open it?
Do we need a more interactive map that lets you scorch the plains?
Let us know in the comments.
