I hope no Philosopher’s Stones were used to bring life to the reports that hit manga/anime Fullmetal Alchemist is set to receive a Japanese live-action adaptation next year.
According to Crunchyroll, Fumihiko Sori is directing the Fullmetal Alchemist adaption with Ryosuke Yamada of J-Pop boy band Hey! Say! JUMP starring as the Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric. Edward’s brother Alphonse, who is usually a hulking suit of armor, is expected to be fully rendered in CGI.
Both attached names are no strangers to live-action anime adaptations with Sori directing Ashita no Joe and Yamada starrng in the Assassination Classroom series of films, but the news will no doubt garner huge support and detractors depending on what fans are expecting of the adaptation.
With two animated movie sequels under its belt, there is no word yet on plot details and other character casting.
Fullmetal Alchemist will begin filming in Italy in June.
Should the movie follow the series?
Will there be an even exchange between the manga and the live-action adaptation?
Who could play Lust? What about Sloth and Pride?
Are we happy that it’s at least not an American whitewash affair a la Dragonball Evolution and The Last Airbender?
